Wrath of Khan Field Jacket: Side View

Description

Here's a view of the left side of the field jacket, showing some prominent details on the left arm that are not repeated on the right arm. The left shoulder had an unusual patch detail that seems to represent a planetary system (it's been a while since I studied this uniform so I no longer remember exactly what it stands for - if someone does know, I'd appreciate the information), and underneath this is a color-coded arm band that serves a similar purpose as the one on the Monster Maroon does.

Because this was taken during a "preliminary" or "out-of-the-bag" costume test, I didn't use the regulation "blousing" black pants, my Durango dress boots, or my Captain's rank insignia, pips or squeaks, but the pips and squeaks would go on the left arm, while the rank insignia goes on the right arm. This is one of the ways in which the field jacket differs from the Monster Maroon semi-dress uniform used on standard shipboard duty during this time period.

Besides the possibility of replacing the pleather "psuedo D-ring" with an actual metal ring, I have also ordered a much larger (2 inches) and more secure version of the Starfleet emblem badge on the chest with a safety-pin back from E-bay. I'm going to use that to replace the little cloisonne military-clasp pin that comes with this uniform. Not only will it look better (it has a less shiny brass finish that's more appropriate for this uniform), it'll be more stable due to the safety-pin closure and won't flop around on the uniform.

While I'll get my uniform back on Saturday, the new attachments won't arrive until next week and I won't be able to pick them up for quite a while because I'll be going through a round of clinical rotations at the hospital. But compared to, say, the Monster Maroon or my Class-C personal uniform variant, this one needed relatively little work and I'm grateful for that.

For anyone interested, Cosplay Sky's TWOK Field Jacket can be found at this listing on E-bay: [link]
