The outfit I'm wearing in this hastily shot photos is Design 270 (Grey Top/Red) by a British science fiction costume manufacturer called Warp One, Ltd. that, sadly, is no longer in business. It's a somewhat simplified version of the more militaristic, black and gray "Dominion War" duty uniform introduced around 2373 and first seen in the movie, "First Contact."The differences include a built-in collar part (this doesn't have the separate undershirt the real costume had) and the grey yoke looking as if it had been completely zipped up (by tradition, Starfleet officers tended to leave the top part unzipped, giving the top the appearance of having a V-neck). I haven't had a Dominion War uniform in a long time, so I was quite excited to get this one, way back in November 2008 when I was a senior at U.C. Berkeley.
This uniform was a milestone in my "career" as a hardcore "Star Trek" geek in general and a cosplaying Trekker in particular. Until then, all my costumes had been "pseudo"-uniforms, either poor quality Rubies wear, or shirts from "Star Trek: The Experience" that were designed to look like, but not completely resemble, the real uniforms.
Although this one was also a variant design, the British-made Design 270 from Warp One, Ltd. was a complete game changer for me. It was much better quality and built to last. Although I currently have only one pair of pants that can go with a "Dominion War" era uniform and need to get at least one more, I can still say with pride that this was my first serious uniform. It's a shame I never wore it out for anything more than Halloween at work.
