Although my pet starship design project, an attempt to re-imagine April Welles' kitbashed Excelsior-class model "U.S.S. Farrington (NX-2010) " to make it better fit my Star Trek fan multiverse concept, is still far from over, I was able to find time to make a few improvements to this initial stage of the design over the last week and a half.
First of all, I have cleaned up, erased, retraced, and redefined some of the lines, panels, and detailing of the original portside elevation view of the prototype Federation battlecruiser. Second, I've finally gone ahead and done a forward view of the starship, something that I just completed today, about 8 hours ago.
It's not perfect; I feel particularly dissatisfied with the way that her giant, round warp nacelle fairings turned out. However, I have almost never drawn front views of starship designs before - even when I was turning out a massive amount of designs back in high school - so this is a first for me.
I've since dug up a large number of line art pieces and starship blueprints for the Excelsior-class and the loosely related Ingram-class vessels, and future iterations will be more and more heavily influenced by those reference works.
The front view should offer some more details into my re-envisioning of the starship's powerful wormhole drive assembly. It better shows the exact semicircular ring shape of her gravitic field generators, as well as the tubelike form of the field regulator pod in the center.

Here are some statistics that I've worked out. The "scaled-up" calculations for things such as dimensions and crew complement and the rescaled top speed are based on comparisons that I calculated from information about the canon Excelsior, Constitution, and alternate reality Constitution classes. I got this information from the website Memory Alpha, which itself references publications such as the "Enterprise Tour" website promoting the 2009 "Star Trek" movie and various official "Star Trek" technical manuals.
Prefix and Name: United Space Ship Farrington
Registration Code: NX-2010
Class: Excelsior (unique variant)

Crew Complement: 1,918 officers and enlisted personnel (standard)
Crew Scale Factor Compared to Canon NCC-2000: approx. 2.56 times
Maximum Speed: Warp Factor 9 (emergency engine shutdown after 12 hours)

Thanks! I didn't know you were on DA as well! I don't see a "friend" option anywhere, but I did add you to my Deviant Watch. That way you'll be notified next time I put up anything, no matter how long it takes before I get the chance. ^_^

I see. How often do you get ideas or inspiration to do something? I also noticed you tend to like drawing technology and machines a little more than "organic stuff." Think you could take on a 3-quarter or "3-dimensional" view of a starship?

Ha! I'm not sure about that! It sounds like a starship would be a very difficult project. Hmm, as for inspiration, I don't know, maybe about three or four times a month? I guess it really depends.
I guess a starship would be a hard project because of all the details involved, especially since a Federation starship has so many disparate parts meshed together to form one whole vessel.
It makes them far easier to do as line art/blueprints or CGI computer models than as objects for traditional art. I've always been amazed at the people who can produce such artworks of Star Trek vessels. Well, if you ever want inspiration for that project, you've got the line art that I've put up here to look at, then.

I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
