DST/AA is finally, *finally* coming out with the first-ever readily available, decently-accurate, electronic toy prop of the Phaser pistol used in "Star Trek III/IV" and redressed for "Final Mission (TNG)." However, that won't be out for quite a while and knowing DST/AA, it will probably get delayed again, again, and again - until it probably finally comes out in 2016 instead of 2014.

Bad DST/AA jokes aside, my friends at Triple-Fiction Productions were playing around with the ST:III/IV design themselves in an attempt to see if they could create a durable, inexpensive "stunt" version, and I was sent the first mockup as a gift. Because this is only the first time they've ever tried building a wooden mockup of the prop, it's very inaccurate and actually a bit oversized (this thing is bigger than my "Copperhead Special" Assault Phaser variant!), but I'm still pretty fond of it.

The P1 wasn't made to resemble any of the several known versions of the ST:III/IV/"Final Mission" Phaser but had a few elements in common with the ILM prototype prop, which had a lot of blue on it, so I decided to take a cue from the prototype and paint in some blue on the prop to make it more visually interesting. I should note that I have since made a further modification and painted that exposed triangular section in the center of the P1 (which is non-removable) blue as well.

This shot is a close-up of the front of the TFP ST:III/IV Phaser prop's business end.  When I first received the prop, that entire thing was done up in all black.  Then, I noticed that the inside of the indented portion seemed to have a very nifty cross-hatched appearance to it and decided to paint it in silver.  The result makes the prop look more dynamic and captures the attention when I have it pointed at the camera, even if it isn't necessarily all that realistic.
