Description

"Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes..."

It's no question that every piece of the "Star Trek" franchise has its own iconic, memorable shots. There are just certain scenes that stick in your head far more than others, things that you see and that you never forget.

In the 2009 "Star Trek" film, one such scene was the shot where a troubled, thoughtful, young James T. Kirk rides his bike through the cornfields outside Riverside, Iowa and sees the Starship Enterprise under construction at the Riverside Shipyard before making the decision to join Starfleet.

Although it was likely ultimately inspired by a piece of Photoshop-edited fan art, or so some stories say, it is one of the most symbolic, meaningful scenes in the whole film even though there's just one character and no dialogue. The sight of a man staring down his destiny - of acknowledging where he stands and what he is truly capable of - is something that isn't easily forgotten.

The partial quotes that I am using as captions for these three photographs are pulled from Captain Christopher Richard Pike's attempt to convince Kirk to join Starfleet, as rendered in the movie's final theatrical trailer.

That was one of my favorite scenes in the latest Star Trek film for certain.
