Otakon 2012 Costume Test 2

Prior to this photo shoot, and I had only cosplayed together at Ichiban 'Con 2012 and even then, it was just for one day and we didn't have many photos together. With her uniform adjusted a bit and mine freshly altered for its one-year anniversary, taking photos together as Sempai and Kohai (and fellow military geeks) during this costume test was a lot of fun for us.

Believe it or not, both of these outfits are nothing but modifications of the same outfit. The original, called a "Monster Black," was a black version of the infamous "Monster Maroon" service coat introduced in the movie, "The Wrath of Khan."

The "Monster Black' isn't canon, but is used by a particular subgroup of Starfleet: the Official Star Trek Fan Club called the Starfleet International Marine Corps, a group that organizes itself as if it were an actual branch of the armed forces and whose members wear uniforms to meetings. Recently, "Monster Black" uniforms have been offered by a number of Asian cosplay tailor shops and the one we approached to make our custom ones was Cosplay Sky.
